It’s a pet peeve of mine, but articles, especially those with ‘data’ in them, should have dates when they were written so that a reader knows how old (stale?) the information may or may not be. I then have to ‘cheat’ and look at the latest comment section to guess. Hi Medys, you can submit to any of the publications above.
Split/Lip Press is dedicated to publishing boundary-breaking fiction, nonfiction, and hybrid books, lifting the transition boards that prevent fluidity and smashing those we cannot pry up. DarkWinter Literary Magazine is an independent publication from Ontario, Canada which focuses on short fiction and poetry. We want your weird, your traditional with a twist, your humour, your dark thoughts, or your elation. We’re open to anything—just make it interesting. The mission of The Baltimore Review is to showcase Baltimore as a literary hub of diverse writing and promote the work of emerging and established writers. To pitch an idea for this column, include “On Nonfiction” in the subject line and past the article or detailed outline in the body of the email.

We do not charge submission fees, but are highly selective in what we choose to publish. Pulp Literature is a beautiful magazine that publishes fiction of all genres. They also publish graphic novels and illustrations.
We buy First English Language serial rights plus certain non-exclusive rights explained in our contract. We do not publish reprints, and we do not accept “simultaneous submissions” (stories sent at the same time to a publication other than Asimov’s). Asimov’s will consider material submitted by any writer, previously published or not. We’ve bought some of our best stories from people who have never sold a story before. Writer’s Digest, the No. 1 magazine for writers, celebrates the writing life and what it means to be a writer in today’s publishing environment. Our pages are filled with advice and real-life experiences that go beyond the ordinary and delve deeply into what’s important to writers today.
Here, your work will go directly to market and its success will be determined by the general public, not by an editorial team. You also don’t have to wait months on a response as to whether your short story will be published. You can upload and be published on Kindle Vella in under 48 hours.
Subject matter and plots can run the gamut, but we want emotion, grit, soul, and writing that forges an immediate connection with the reader. Submission does not guarantee that your work will be published. All submissions will be considered for our long-form anthology.
The number one best way to learn how to write good short stories is by writing them often. That’s just we’re wired when we’re learning how to write a short story or anything else. The process of how to write a short story is rarely one-and-done but usually takes writing, rewriting, and editing to create your best work.
